Yellowstone

Camped in Madison campground and set up camp first thing. Madison river is shown below.

Got a ride up to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Us at one of the lookouts for the Grand Canyon (Yellowstone).

Lower Falls lookout point in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

This is what the lower falls looks like from a higher vantage point.

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone was pretty much the highlight of the day. To clean off, we went down to the river by the campground (below) which had two rivers coming together, one warm and one colder, so we were able to get a warm rinse to top off the day.

Next Day: biking to Lewis Lake

Lots of hot springs and other thermal features and geysers!

All those steamy things are geysers.

Firerock canyon (still sorta looked like lava).

One of the paint pots.

Old Faithful!

Grand Prismatic spring, lots of colors!

The highest point of the day (and a relief to get over).

Riding next to Lewis Lake on the way to the campground.

Lewis Lake was a trying experience. The mosquitoes were relentless and we've never witnessed more aggressive mosquitoes in our lifetime. Then we decided to leave the rainfly off (for some non-sensical reason). Of course, it starts to rain heavily and there is lightning and thunder to go with it. Fran hates lightning and ran to hide in the outhouse for shelter after hearing other campers getting into their cars and Chris politely came along, though he disliked Fran for it the next morning.

Chris didn't want to get up and out of the tent into the swarm of mosquitoes and all the wet clothes waiting for us.

Lewis Lake was still pretty, but don't camp here.

Leaving Yellowstone. Pretty good park, but not the best park (at all) for cyclists.
